Shark finning is the removal and retention of shark fins and disposing of the rest of the carcass at sea. The shark is almost always still alive when it is tossed back into the ocean where it slowly sinks to the bottom. Sharks without fins cannot swim and in order to breath sharks must keep in motion so that way water can move through their gills and they can retrieve oxygen that way. But without their fins they sit at the bottom and drown.
Shark fins are considered a delicacy in the eastern part of the world. So every year 10s of millions of sharks are killed each year just for their fins. This is a tragedy because many sharks are becoming close to being on the verge of extinction.
Please help stop this practice and help protect sharks. To sign the petition go to this website. [link]
